    End of Summer 2013 Review

It has been a busy summer for BeerBasics.

A visit to a brewery is an event that can be educational, entertaining and a chance to try brews that may not be available anyplace else. A good example is in Windsor, Vermont where the Mass Bay Brewing Company has a brewery and pub in operation. The opportunity to visit the brewery was too good to pass up. The following post looks back and shows how this brewery has grown.

BeerBasics revisits the Harpoon brewery in Windsor, VT…

Rather close by is another Vermont brewery that is worth a visit for another reason. That brewery is Long Trail Brewery in Bridgwater Corners, Vermont.

Of special interest is their one barrel pilot brewery. Why would such a small brewery be interesting? The answer is that such a small capacity allows the brewer to try more variations on a theme than if he had to brew ten and twenty barrel batches.

While I visited the Long Trail pilot brewery I had a chance to sample a Lemon Pepper Kolsch. Why don’t you take a look at the video and enjoy the tour? “When BeerBasics visited the pilot brewery at Long Trail Brewery

Good stories need good endings. And so it was with the story of the Long Trail Lemon Pepper Kolsch.

While enjoying a Sunday afternoon snack at the Waterfront Alehouse, on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, NY, I noticed that the list of beers included a Lemon Pepper Kolsch from Long Trail. The ending to the story can be found with a side of sliders

Between spells of almost unbearable heat came a week of refreshing Canadian air. It was a fortunate arrival for myself and wife as her family reunion in Plymouth, Massachusetts enjoyed that refreshing respite.

On the way there BeerBasics had a chance to visit the new tasting room at the Harpoon brewery in Boston it’s the only place (other than the previously mentioned brewery in Windsor, VT) where you’ll find Harpoon Ale…

Closer to the Plymouth Plantation was a smaller brewery that needed investigating.

The Mayflower Brewery is, yes, named after the ship that carried the settlers to New England.

It’s not the most impressive entrance but the tour was something else again. Take a look as BeerBasics visits and tours the Mayflower Brewing Co. brewhouse…

Back in the “Baked Apple” I received a note that a friend had taken over a brewery attached to 508 Gastrobrewery (they do need a new name), a restaurant in the Manhattan neighborhood known as SoHo.

There was no question that that was something to investigate. It turned out to be this summer’s brewpub news from NYC. You won’t want to miss seeing what happens when BeerBasics revisits 508 and finds Chris Cuzme at the helm .

And that is what I did on my summer vacation.
